چکیده

Congenital amusia is a neurogenetic disorder affecting various aspects of music and speech processing. Although perception auditory imagery in the general population may share mechanisms, it not known whether previously documented perceptual impairments are coupled with difficulties imaging objects. We employed Bucknell Auditory Imagery Scale (BAIS) to assess participants’ self-perceived voluntary short earworm questionnaire gauge their subjective experience involuntary musical imagery. A total 32 participants 34 matched controls, recruited based on performance Montreal Battery Evaluation Amusia (MBEA), filled out questionnaires own time. The scores amusic were statistically significantly different from those controls. Congenital amusia: an auditory-motor feedback disorder?

PURPOSE Congenital amusia (tone deafness) is a disorder in which those affected typically complain of or are identified by their inability to sing in tune. A psychophysical and possibly surrogate marker of this condition is the inability to recognize deviations in pitch that are one semitone (100 cents) or less. The aim of our study was to identify candidate brain regions that might be associat...

Altered intrinsic connectivity of the auditory cortex in congenital amusia.

Congenital amusia, a neurodevelopmental disorder of music perception and production, has been associated with abnormal anatomical and functional connectivity in a right frontotemporal pathway. To investigate whether spontaneous connectivity in brain networks involving the auditory cortex is altered in the amusic brain, we ran a seed-based connectivity analysis, contrasting at-rest functional MR...

Congenital amusia

For most people, music, like language, is acquired effortlessly in early life. But a few percent of the population have lifelong difficulties in the perception and production of music. In this chapter we discuss psycho-acoustic and behavioral studies that have attempted to delineate the nature of the auditory perceptual deficits in this group and consider whether these difficulties extend outsi...

Singing in congenital amusia.

Congenital amusia is a musical disorder characterized by impaired pitch perception. To examine to what extent this perceptual pitch deficit may compromise singing, 11 amusic individuals and 11 matched controls were asked to sing a familiar tune with lyrics and on the syllable /la/. Acoustical analysis of sung renditions yielded measures of pitch accuracy (e.g., number of pitch errors) and time ...

Characterizing congenital amusia.

The ability to make sense of the music in our environment involves sophisticated cognitive mechanisms that, for most people, are acquired effortlessly and in early life. A special population of individuals, with a disorder termed congenital amusia, report lifelong difficulties in this regard. Exploring the nature of this developmental disorder provides a window onto the cognitive architecture o...
